Once a successful model has been implemented on Bruny, the aim is to help other communities or commercial operators do the same in their coastal waters. We will develop the template that can be implemented by others. Creating a pathway that lowers risk to new operators and fast-tracking their seafarms to profitability. Seafarming Australia will achieve this through training, education and advocacy for regenerative sea farming.
There are literally hundreds of uses for seaweed, not just for food but as ingredients for domestic, commercial and industrial products. The Australian Seaweed Industry Blueprint outlines plans for a $1.5 billion Australian seaweed industry by 2040 that employs 9,000 people and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10%. Tasmania is ideally placed to be a big part of this.
