Start with the market, not the water

Plenty of producers grow whatever suits the site and then go looking for a buyer. We would rather do it the other way round. Work out where it ends up first, then decide what goes in the water. We have already had unsolicited enquiries from overseas about long-term seaweed supply, well before there is any to sell. A long way off being able to take on commitments like that, but it says something about where this is heading. Seaweed alone can go half a dozen ways. Food, extracts, cosmetics, fertiliser for farmers on the land, stock feed. Each one requires a different species with different processing requirements.
What are the real opportunities for seaweed and shellfish 'seed to plate' strategies?
